Volunteering at I hope family centre
Volunteers are active participants and partners in supporting families and their children 0-6 years of age at the I hope family centre.
Program description – I hope family centre is a multi-service family resource hub working to ensure all North Shore families and their children under the age of 6 have access to innovative support and prevention programs that provide a continuum of services from pregnancy through birth to kindergarten entry.
What will volunteers do at the centre?
- Assist children at an activity centre (art, puzzles, dramatic play, etc.) while the child leads the play
- Assist parents by listening, holding and comforting their infant or providing support to their older child through reading or play
- Snack preparation, preparation of art activities, general tidy-up of room, toys and materials as well as managing the Clothing Exchange
- Landscaping and playground maintenance
What you’ll learn
- Hands on skills such as teamwork, parenting support and the importance of play in early childhood education.
- That all families of young children need support regardless of their socio-economic situation and how this support is appreciated and valued.
Qualifications
Are you compassionate with good listening skills? Do you enjoy young children and have a sense of fun? Are you able to commit to regular volunteer time? If so, you may be a good fit for the I hope family centre. volunteer team. Strength in cultural diversity is also an asset.
